North Bali Escape: Waterfalls, Lake Views & Highland Roads

A longer journey into Bali’s cooler highlands, where winding roads lead to waterfalls, misty lake views and quieter village landscapes.

North Bali asks for more driving, but the changing landscape makes the journey part of the story. We started early enough to avoid rushing, then climbed from the warmer south into cooler air and greener mountain roads.

Driver’s note

This is a long route. A comfortable vehicle, realistic stop count and an experienced professional driver matter more than trying to include every attraction in one day.

The road into Bali’s highlands

As we moved higher, the road narrowed and the temperature dropped. Small roadside farms, temple gates and distant ridgelines appeared between bends. A private car made it easy to stop briefly when the weather opened a clear view.

A misty lake viewpoint

The lake area can shift quickly from bright sun to mist. We allowed time for a warm drink and a slower look at the landscape rather than treating the viewpoint as a photo-only stop.

The walk to the waterfall

The waterfall was the most active part of the day. Paths may include steps, wet stone and uneven ground, so we always discuss physical comfort before finalising the exact waterfall. Guests who prefer less walking can choose an easier alternative.

“North Bali feels rewarding because the journey slows down before the waterfall even comes into view.”

A calm return through changing light

On the way back, we kept the plan open. Depending on the guests’ energy, the route could include a short village stop or continue directly to the hotel. This flexibility is one of the main advantages of a private professional driver.
